What is FUNAG?
The Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG), instituted by Law 5,717 of October 26, 1971, is a public foundation linked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its purpose is to disseminate the Brazilian foreign policy stances and to promote debates on topics related to international relations by means of cultural and pedagogical activities.
FUNAG contributes to the formation, in Brazil, of a public opinion sensitive to the problems of international coexistence and allows access by citizens in general to such information.
What are FUNAG’s main activities?
In order to fulfill its purpose, FUNAG holds conferences, courses, seminars, lectures and round tables in which Brazilian or foreign experts present their points of view and discuss issues relevant to the Brazilian foreign policy and international relations. The videos of FUNAG’s events are available on the Foundation’s YouTube channel.
FUNAG also publishes books of authors from the areas of foreign policy, international relations and diplomatic history and makes them available to its target public, in particular through its Digital Library located on its website, with free access and download.
Where is FUNAG?
FUNAG is located in Brasilia, in the Esplanada dos Ministérios, Block H, Annex II, ground floor (where there is also a store to sell FUNAG’s books). However, FUNAG has a unit in Rio de Janeiro, the Center for Diplomatic History and Documentation (CHDD), located in Itamaraty Palace at 196 Marechal Floriano Avenue - Downtown.
