FUNAG publishes book on foreign policy and guerrilla in the Southern Cone
The Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG) publishes the book Política externa e guerrilha no Cone Sul: o “Plano Satã” e o sequestro do diplomata brasileiro Aloysio Mares dias Gomide [Foreign policy and guerrilla in the Southern Cone: the “Satan Plan” and the kidnapping of Brazilian diplomat Aloysio Mares Dias Gomide], by Counsellor Fabio Rocha Frederico.
The work narrates the kidnapping of Brazilian diplomat Aloysio Gomide by the then main leftist armed group in Uruguay, the Tupamaros National Liberation Movement, on July 31, 1970.
The book analyzes the Uruguayan conjuncture of the time and the complex negotiation that led to the release of the diplomat, as well as its implications for the bilateral relations between Brazil and Uruguay.
Presented at the High Studies Course of the Rio Branco Institute in 2018, the book conducts an unprecedented study of a forgotten event in Brazilian international relations, but one which had an enormous repercussion in the 1970s public opinion.
