FUNAG conducts seminar celebrating the 60 years of Brazil-Republic of Korea relations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Brazil and the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG) conducted, on September 3, 2019, the seminar “60 years of Brazil-Republic of Korea relations: education, innovation, and our future”.

The event was opened by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ernesto Araújo; Vice-Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Ambassador Yun Kang-hyeon; Korean Ambassador to Brazil, Chan-woo Kim; President of the Brazil-South Korea Parliamentary Front, Congressman Cláudio Cajado (PP-BA); MRE’s Secretary for Bilateral Negotiations in Asia, the Pacific and Russia, Ambassador Reinaldo José de Almeida Salgado; General Director of the Rio Branco Institute, Ambassador Maria Stela Pompeu Brasil Frota; and President of FUNAG, Minister Roberto Goidanich.

The seminar featured presentations by experts who discussed the relations between both countries in three panels. In the first, “Korea-Brazil cooperation in emerging industries”, took part the Director for Global Innovation Strategy of the Korean Science and Technology Policy Institute, Chi Ung Song; Innovation Manager of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI), Elisa Carlos Pereira; and Senior Coordinator of Samsung Electronics Latin America, Eduardo Vegas Conejo.

The second panel, “The Korean educational system”, featured a presentation by the Director of Curriculum and Textbook of the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, Keun Ho Lee, and comments by the President of FUNAG.

Lastly, the panel “The history of the Korean economic development” included contributions from Research Professor Taeheok Lee, from the Busan University of Foreign Studies, and the Director of the MRE’s Department for Japan, the Korean Peninsula and the Pacific, Minister Cecília Ishitani.

The event was closed with speeches by MRE’s Secretary for Bilateral Negotiations in Asia, the Pacific, and Russia, as well as by the Korean Ambassador to Brazil.
