Itamaraty and FUNAG promote lecture on the Paris Club
The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation (FUNAG) held, on June 27, 2019, at the Rio Branco Institute, in Brasilia, a lecture and debate on Brazil’s role in the Paris Club. The event aimed to deepen the debate on the Paris Club, the Brazilian participation within it and the sustainability of developing countries’ debt.
The Paris Club is the main international forum for debt renegotiation for countries in economic difficulties, in which creditor countries seek sustainable solutions for these matters. Brazil, which has become a creditor, is the 22nd member of the Club – the only permanent member from Latin America.
The lecture’s panel was composed of Minister Caio Mário Renault, Head of the MRE’s Division of Financial and Tax Policy, and Mr. Lázaro Coelho de Deus Lima, General Coordinator of Credit and Guarantee of the Undersecretariat for Financing Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economy. Also at the table were the Director of the Rio Branco Institute, Ambassador Gisela Maria Figueiredo Padovan, and the President of FUNAG, Minister Roberto Goidanich.
